Police Begin Strict One-Week Compliance Drive

During a joint press conference, City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Dogar and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Kashif Aslam stressed the urgency of meeting the new rules. The officials clarified that the directive applies to all student riders across the city.

The instructions were issued after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz prohibited the arrest of underage students for traffic violations—an order that came in response to recent concerns over student mistreatment.

Extended Traffic Center Hours for Student Convenience

CPO Sadiq Dogar revealed that the police have launched an extensive awareness campaign to guide students under the revised traffic rules. To accommodate the increased demand, traffic centers will now remain open late into the evening, ensuring students can obtain motorcycle licenses without difficulty.

He emphasized that the goal is not punishment, but compliance with safety standards.

Revised Traffic Laws and Stricter Penalties

CTO Kashif Aslam highlighted that the Punjab government has recently amended traffic regulations and imposed higher penalties for violations. He urged all citizens—especially young riders—to follow traffic rules strictly to avoid legal issues and financial penalties.

According to him, this renewed campaign aims to shape responsible and safe behavior among student motorcyclists.

Chief Minister’s Response to Student Mistreatment Incidents

Earlier, videos of young students being handcuffed for traffic offenses sparked significant public backlash. In response, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz:

  • Banned the arrest of minors for traffic violations
  • Condemned the harsh treatment of students
  • Called on parents to play an active role in teaching road discipline

Her directives prioritize education over punishment while reinforcing safety standards for minors.
